Item Background: This item is proposed to protect property rights and natural resources. The subject lots in Duck Key Center Island subdivision on Duck Key are zoned Improved Subdivision (IS), designated Residential Medium (RM) on the Future Land Use Map, and located in an area of freshwater wetlands. The proposed acquisition area consists of "red-flagged" wetlands (unsuitable for development due to a high functional capacity and lack of disturbance), together with the largest adjoining areas of lesser quality wetlands. Funding for these purchases will come from the State's Preservation 2000 program, which will restrict future use of the property to conservation and public recreation. The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used. The agenda packet spreadsheet lists the legal descriptions, purchase prices, and closing costs for these transactions. Advisory Committee Action: On 2/19/02 the Advisory Committee voted 5/0 to approve these purchases.
