AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to apply for a grant for a firefighting vehicle and/or
equipment.
ITEM BACKGROUND: The Federal Emergency Management Agency's United States Fire
Administration has a 2002 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The application period runs from
March 1 through April 1 , 2002. Fire Departments servicing areas with a population of 50,000 or less
will have to match the Federal grant funds with an amount of non-Federal funds equal to 10 percent of
the total project cost. All cost-share contributions must be cash.
Monroe County's eligibility to participate in this program is being researched currently.
Consideration is being given to applying for a grant to purchase a new pumper and associated and/or
related equipment for the Cudjoe Key station, or to purchase tone/voice pagers to be assigned to off-
duty firefighter/medics of Monroe County Fire - EMS Department to be used for emergency call-back
purposes.
The funding source for the required 10 percent, non-Federal, match will be identified prior to
applying for the grant.
