ITEM BACKGROUND:
Monroe County has successfully secured $1,375,992 in CDBG funds and over $750,000 in match
funds in support of projects benefiting very low and low-income residents since 1993.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION:
Approval of similar Resolutions in 1993 and 1997 Authorizing CDBG Applications in support of
projects to assist very low and low-income residents.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION
OF A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF
COMMUNITY AFFAIRS UNDER THE FLORIDA SMALL CITIES
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) PROGRAM;
PROVIDING THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR THE AUTHORITY TO
EXECUTE SAME ON BEHALF OF MONROE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Community Affairs has announced the competitive cycle
for the 2002 State of Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
Program for which Monroe County is an eligible applicant; and
WHEREAS, CDBG funds up to $750,000 are available for eligible activities including Housing,
Neighborhood Revitalization, Commercial Revitalization and Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, the County has conducted the first of two public hearings to discuss the needs,
potential scoring and program eligibility within the aforementioned CDBG Categories; and
WHEREAS, the County desires to secure CDBG grant funding on behalf of very low and low
income residents of Monroe County,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe
County, Florida, that the County hereby:
Authorizes the County Administrator to direct the Special Programs Office, Monroe County
Housing Authority to prepare and submit a Community Development Block Grant Application on
behalf of Monroe County for CDBG grant funds to the Department of Community Affairs, and
further authorizes the County Administrator to execute all necessary application documents on
behalf of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners.
PASSED AND ADOPTED, by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida at
a regular meeting on said Board on the 17th day of Aoril, A.D., 2002
