ITEM BACKGROUND:
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) administers a grant program that results from a settlement
with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines for a dumping violation in the Florida Keys. These funds are to be used for
resource enhancement or protection. The County has received one previous grant from NFWF to purchase a
vessel and to assist in implementing the County's channel marking program. This grant will assist the County
in developing and implementing a mooring field plan. We hope to have permitted and installed two to three
mooring fields by the end of FY 03. The total value of the grant is $130,000. There is no County match
requirement.
