Approval of visioning statement of the Marine and Port Advisory Committee.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
The Marine and Port Advisory Committee (MP AC) spent several meetings last year discussing the
issues that they felt were relevant to their activities in the coming years. Their efforts culminated in a
short descriptive document that focuses on ten key issues, including improving environmental and
boating education, improving boater safety and navigation, and creating a plan for moored and
anchored out vessels. The MP AC is providing this document to the Board for its review and
acceptance. Based on the MP AC vision document, the committee will move forward on additional
projects.

A Vision into the 215t Century
for the
Florida Keys
Visionin!! Statement
The Florida Keys should become a world renowned maritime environment, where the waters are
clean, sea life flourishes, and the needs of boaters are accommodated. Safety and navigation
should be of utmost importance and the traditions and infrastructure of our working waterfront
should be enhanced and preserved.
Vision in!! Obiectives
The Marine and Port Advisory Committee has discussed and reviewed a wide variety of goals
and objectives addressing the County's maritime future. The following visioning items are
suggested for consideration and endorsement by the Momoe County Board of County
Commissioners:
Improve both environmental and boater education
Improve boater safety and navigation
Plan for the imminent opening of Cuba
Make the Florida Keys a world class yachting destination
Provide additional staff to enforce marine laws and regulations
Add and improve boat ramps Keys-wide
Make improvements to the derelict vessel program
Provide for dredging where needed
Streamline the processes involved in permitting of necessary marine infrastructure
Develop a comprehensive Keys-wide plan addressing both moored and docked
vessels, including both transient and Iiveaboard boaters
