A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, THAT ALL UTILITY COMPANIES
SHALL WORK TOGETHER TO ELIMINATE REDUNDANT UTILITY
POLES FROM THE U.S. 1 RIGHT-QF-WAY
WHEREAS, U.S. 1 is part of the Federal Highway System functioning as a principle
arterial road and a local road, and
WHEREAS, the residents and tourists of Monroe County depend on U.S. 1 for
business, recreation, and personal activities, and
WHEREAS, U.S. 1 is the only roadway that leads from one end of the Keys to the
other end, and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that U.S. 1 be a safe roadway under all conditions, and,
WHEREAS, U.S. i is used as a hurricane evacuation route, and
WHEREAS, it is desirous to reduce the number of obstructions within the U.S. 1
right-of-way for safety reasons, and
WHEREAS, each obstruction can be hazardous to errant vehicles, and
WHEREAS, there are redundant utility poles on U.S. 1 in several areas, and
WHEREAS, U.S. 1 is designated as a Florida Scenic Highway and a Florida
Greenway, and
WHEREAS, the elimination of the redundant poles on U.S. 1 will serve to beautify
the highway; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA, that all utility companies shall work together to eliminate as many
redundant utility poles as possible from the U.S. 1 right-of-way.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the day of
2002.
