They reportedly received commuter approval about a month ago. They would like to provide service from the Marathon Airport to Ft. Lauderdale and other destinations. To Be Announced. As a public airport we cannot turn charter service away without sufficient reason, such as documented or reported Federal Aviation Administration (F AA) safety violations, or we would be in violation of our FAA airport assurances. Both Fixed Base Operations (FBO's), Paradise Aviation and Marathon Jet Center (formerly Grantair) receive some charter operations on their leased areas. Both FBO's provide the insurance coverage for operations on their leased areas. Florida Coastal Air would like to operate out of the terminal, using Cessna 402 aircraft. These aircraft seat nine passengers. The county would require that Florida Coastal Air provide Aircraft insurance and General Liability insurance to cover incidents that may occur in the terminal area. Currently Vintage Jets and Props operates out of the Marathon Terminal, they have been operating a charter service for approximately 3 years. At this time Florida Coastal Air would be considered a similar service, yet they are proposing more flights and more aggressive marketing. It has been in the community's best interest that we allow smaller commuter service to operate out of the terminal without landing fees. Landing fees for a Cessna 402, which weighs 6200 pounds, would be $0.79 per one thousand pounds, or $4.90 per landing. There is a minimum of$9.88 per landing. Vintage Jets and Props does not utilize counter space, need security or fire fighting services, and at this time Florida Coastal Air (FCA) is not requesting counter space, does not need security, nor fire fighting services. Basically the flights will pick up and drop off at the terminal with the pilots handling the baggage and ticketing. Florida Coastal Air (FCA) plans on offering service four times a week and increasing to seven times a week. They propose starting service November 15,2002. G4
