SCOPE OF SERVICES
The objectives of the Visitor Profile Survey are to develop a profile of our visitors, by season,
in terms of demographics, visitor origin, and type of visitor. Information to be collected will
include age, income, ethnicity, origin, length of stay, number in party, means of reserving
accommodations, mode of transportation, expenditures, past visit history, advertising recall,
and importance/satisfaction ratings. Additionally, other special topic questions may be added
during different times of the year.
This information will be used to profile our markets, overall and by each of the five districts of
the Keys, and record changes to those markets by season and over time. The strategic
implications of this information will be to direct the marketing, advertising, and sales efforts of
the Tourist Development Council.
Data will be collected by face-to-face interviews with visitors at various locations throughout
the five districts of the Keys (Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Lower Keys, and Key West).
These locations will be picked to maximize the likelihood of intercepting visitors. The day of the
week and time of day of the interviews will be varied so as not to exclude or over-represent
certain types of visitors (i.e., weekend visitors, day-trippers, and longer stay visitors).
An annual sample base of 3,000 intercept interviews will be created. A quota of 50 interviews
per district per month will be established. Findings will be weighted by region to reflect the
actual proportion of visitors overall.
The research vendor will be responsible for the following:
· Developing a survey instrument which can be completed in a 3-5 minute time frame. The
questionnaire should be pre-tested to ensure validity of response and timing requirements.
1111..'111111 for example of current instrument.
· Recruiting and training the interviewers, monitoring their performance (including follow-up
contact with respondents for validation purposes), and ensuring they fulfill their quotas with
the appropriate rotation of locations and days of week.
· Cleaning the data, inputting it into a format compatible with the TDC's computers, and
delivering it in a timely manner.
