Gail Keeler
Monroe County BOCC
Employee of the Month for August, 2002
Gail Keeler is a valued
employee and an asset to both
Monroe County and the
University of Florida. Gail has
been with the Extension Service
for two years, serving as
horticulture assistant, staff
assistant, and Extension projects
specialist. Prior to that, she
worked with the Recycling
Department for four years. Gail
contributes to office productivity
with a strong sense of team spirit
and dedication to her work. Gail
has made two significant
contributions to the Extension
Service during this past year that
warrant recognition as Employee
of the Month.
Gail took charge of
organizing the Tropical Fruit
Fiesta and made it the most
successful Fiesta in its four-year
history. This success was due to
Gail's pleasant and professional
approach in dealing with vendors,
advertisers, and sponsors as well
as her exceptional organizational
skills. She involved other County
departments by partnering with
Library Services and Public
Works. She also partnered with
the Art Behind Bars program to
auction a fruit painting. She also
dramatically increased pre-event
publicity. The result of these
efforts was increased attendance
by residents, vendors, and
volunteers, and an enjoyable
experience for everyone who
attended.
Gail has helped the
Extension Service and Monroe
County by greatly improving the
two Extension monthly office
newsletters: the Master Gardener
newsletter called the Mangrove
News, and our administrative
report, Extension Happenings. She
also has successfully increased
our presence in local newspapers
by producing more effective news
releases and developing better
communication with reporters and
editors.
Weare pleased to have an
employee with Gail's enthusiasm
and motivation.
It is a pleasure to present
this Employee of the Month award
to Ms. Gail Keeler in recognition
of her contributions to Monroe
County residents and the BOCC.
