Public hearing on an ordinance to dissolve the Translator Taxing District.
ITEM BACKGROUND
Ordinance 5-1982 created the Translator Taxing District for the purpose of providing for the
funding of a translator system. In 1984, the City of Key West joined the district. Taxes
have not been levied in this district since 1996.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION
Board gave approval to close Fund 142/ Translator Fund and transfer all residual funds to
the General Fund on 9/18/02.
Board gave approval to advertise this public hearing on February 19, 2003.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, DISSOLVING THE TRANSLATOR TAXING
DISTRICT AND REPEAUNG THE LAWS ESTABLISHING THE DISTRICT;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF
ALL ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR
INCORPORATION INTO THE MONROE COUNTY CODE OF
ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Translator Taxing Special District, encompassing all of Monroe County except
the City of Key Colony Beach, has been inactive for more than two consecutive fiscal years; and '
WHEREAS, notice of the public hearing on this ordinance was published in accordance with
Section 189.4044, Florida Statutes; and
WHEREAS, the public hearing resulted in no sustained objections; now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA:
Section 1.
The Translator Taxing Special District established under Ordinance No.
5-1982 is hereby declared inactive and is therefore dissolved.
Section 2.
Sees. 13-16 through 20, and Sees. 13-26 through 29, Monroe County Code are
hereby repealed.
Section 3.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or provision of this ordinance is
held invalid, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected by such invalidity.
Section 4.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby
repealed to the extent of said conflict.
Section 5.
The provisions of this ordinance shall be included and incorporated in the Code
of Ordinances of the County of Monroe, Florida, as an addition or amendment thereto, and shall be
appropriately renumbered to conform to the uniform numbering system of the Code.
Section 6.
This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon receipt of official notice from
the Office of the Secretary of State of the State of Florida that this ordinance has been filed with said
Office.
