DISPOSITION:
Monroe County Employee of the Month for November 2002
Carol Smith
Carol Smith began working with Monroe County in
September in 1995 as Marathon Transportation Coordinator.
She started scheduling clients' trips as well as dispatching
the drivers on the radio. In 1996 the position included
Plantation Key when necessary. When Key West became the
base for scheduling and dispatching all clients all through
the Keys in 1998, Carol then focused on Transportation's
safety and outreach services.
Carol's flexibility is admirable. Her previous trucking and
computer experiences works hand-in-hand with today's
various aspects. Her top priority focuses on safety, and she
regularly holds safety meetings with all the drivers. Carol
supervises and helps drivers maintain a thorough
understanding of their job description requirements. She
keeps the busses monitored, maintained and keeps in
contact with the mechanics at the garages.
She works very closely with the community and with other
county employees. Carol enjoys working with people and
creates and distributing brochures and posters throughout
the Keys. She is willing to help others whether it's in the

office, on the road, or even in a different department. Carol
is known on numerous occasions to represent Social Services
at the Emergency Operating Center during the hurricane
season.
Carol's dedication accomplishes an outstanding employee,
and never gives less than her best. She is an asset to the
Transportation department and Monroe County, and we are
proud to recognize Carol as the Employee of the Month.
