DISPOSITION:
YEARS OF SERVICE AWARD
KATHY TORIBIO
SENIOR LIBRARIAN, JUVENILE SPECIALIST
MONROE COUNTY LIBRARY, COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION
Kathy Toribio started her service with Monroe County in 1988, in the Social
Services Department, where she worked as a Social Worker for five years.
It was here that she established herself in the County system as a caring
person, one concerned with the welfare of those around her.
She continued this role of active concern when she made the transition to
become the Monroe County Recycling Education Coordinator. In the
course of her seven years in that position, she specialized in setting up
recycling programs with local businesses and conducting a series of
environmental education courses in the County schools.
It was this work with the schools that led her to her current position as
Senior Juvenile Librarian, working out of the Key West Library. Her
experiences in working with school children enhanced her formal
qualifications for this position, but it is her caring and concern for the
children of the County that is best seen in her actions. She now conducts
regular programs for pre-school and school-aged children, both in the
Library and in her outreach activities.
Kathy also work with the children's specialists in the Library branches
across the system, coordinating special programs and overseeing the
materials selection for the Juvenile collections throughout the County
Library system.
Kathy's community concerns are evident in her off-work activities: she is
an active member of various community and child-related organizations.
In her fifteen years with Monroe County, and especially in her four years
with the Library, Kathy has proven herself a hard-working and energetic
provider of. public service in its best sense-she is fully aware of the
importance of the needs of our children, and has dedicated herself to this
mission. We are proud to have her now as our Juvenile Librarian, and the
children of the area have come to enjoy and appreciate her work, as they
come weekly to have fun with their "Miss Kathy." We hope this will be a
tradition for many years to come.
