Item Background: This purchase is proposed to protect nature resources. The subject property
consists of approximately 9 acres of hammock, transitional wetlands, and mangroves on the oceanside
of Ramrod Key zoned Native Area (NA). Due to its environmental sensitivity, the subject property
would score poorly under ROGO and cannot be developed with affordable housing. The property is
within a State Florida Forever project (formerly known as "CARL" project) and therefore the Land
Authority may have the opportunity to recover some or all of its acquisition costs through resale to the
State.
Following an initial effort to remove solid waste and exotic vegetation, land stewardship needs for this
property are anticipated to be low.
The Land Authority's standard purchase contract will be used for this transaction. The agenda packet
spreadsheet lists the purchase price and estimated closing costs.
Advisory Committee Action: On July 24, 2003 the Advisory Committee voted 3/0 to approve the
proposed purchase.
Previous Governing Board Action: The Board has approved the purchase of many environmentally
sensitive parcels on Ramrod Key.
