construction of replacement North Key Largo Volunteer Fire Rescue Station.
ITEM BACKGROUND
Key Largo Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is in the design and construction phase of a
replacement station for their existing station in North Key Largo. The fire station presently
exists at the 106 mile marker at the intersection of US 1 and State Road 905 (Card Sound Road).
The existing fire station presently exists on property owned by the State of Florida which is
currently being leased to Monroe County for the express purpose of constructing and operating
a fire department for the North Key Largo District. The right of way abandonment is for roads
that were platted in the area at one time when a subdivision was planned for that area, never
constructed.
The legal description of the right of way to be abandoned is: First Street, Key Largo City, Plat No.
5, that fronts Lots 10 thru 17, and a portion of the area referred to as the "Alley" that separates Lots
10 thru 17 and Lots 46 thru 53, Block 5.
The fire department has obtained and will provide letters of approval by all utility companies as
well as land owners directly adjacent to the "platted roads" to be abandoned; which in this case
is the State of Florida.
The final step is to submit the right-of-way abandonment request to the Board of County
Commissioners for approval.
PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: Approval of budget to design and construct the new
North Key Largo Volunteer Fire Station.

Please note: All letters of approval have been obtain with the exception of the Florida Keys
Aqueduct Authority. The FKAA has verbally agreed to the right-of-way abandonment but
cannot provide a letter to that effect until their board of directors meets on Oct. 23, 2003. We
forsee no problems and will provide the letter well in advance of the above BOCC meeting date.

Petitioners certify that they are the sole owners of Lot(s) (description above) and that the
abandonment of said road will not take away from other property holders' right of ingress
and egress to their property, and that the 2003 taxes on their subject land have been paid.
(Exhibit D) Legal description of that portion of roadway which petitioners seek to have
abandoned.
(Exhibits E-l, E-2, E-3, and E-4) Letters of no objection from utility companies, including,
but not limited to water, electricity, telephone, cable TV.

address of all adjacent property owners.
Petitioners seek the abandonment for the following reasons:
For the construction of the replacement of the existing North Key Largo Volunteer Fire
Station on the above referenced property. A fire station presently exists on the property
and a lease is in effect for all property referenced above between the State of Florida
(property owners), and Monroe County for the express purpose of constructing and
operating a fire department for the Key Largo District. The right of way abandonment is
for roads that were platted in the area at one time when a subdivision was planned for that
area, but never constructed.
