Item I11 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY Meeting Date: 21 Januarv 2004 Division: Growth Management Bulk Item: Yes -K- No Department: Marine Resources AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval to advertise requesting bids for equipment and tackle for 166 additional moorings for the expansion of the City of Marathon mooring field and to pay for 39 moorings recently installed ($16,017.40) ITEM BACKGROUND: The City of Marathon has been expanding the size of their mooring field in Boot Key Harbor. Much of the development of the mooring field concept was developed by Monroe County prior to turning over the marina and bay bottom to the City of Marathon. The City has requested County funding to assist with the purchase and/or installation of moorings. This is a priority for the City at this time and for the next year or two as they obtain permits and complete mooring field management plans. The County has grant funds (National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF)) acquired specifically for the purpose of establishing mooring fields, which need to be utilized before the grant expires. Thus, the request from the City to assist in the expansion of the mooring field at this time is advantageous to using up remaining funds. Expenses for the recent mooring installation ($16,017.40) and new mooring equipment will be paid using the NFWF grant.
