Through the years, Mr. Novak has responded to hundreds of calls for help by the citizens of and visitors to Monroe County. He has a professional attitude and compassionate demeanor, and is always willing to lend a hand, to patients and co-workers alike. Some of his responsibilities include: responding to 9-1-1 emergencies; providing Basic and Advanced Life Support to critically ill patients; and providing fire suppression duties. Mr. Novak has also been an integral part of the team that provides care of our Special Medical Needs patients at Florida International University, during times of county hurricane evacuation. He has spent many days and nights sleeping on the floor in less than comfortable surroundings at the shelter, always present to provide care for those patients in their time of great need and stress. He is always looking for ways to improve this program, and many of his suggestions have been implemented to increase the comfort, care and safety of these evacuees. In 1999, Mr. Novak attended the first Monroe County Fire Academy, and became a state certified firefighter, further enhancing his skills and knowledge. Mr. Novak continues to attend all training required of his position, including: fire service training; Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support; and Basic Trauma Life Support. Mr. Novak is a hard working, dedicated member of the Monroe County Fire Rescue Team, well liked and respected by his co-workers and supervisors, and we applaud his 15 years of service to Monroe County.
