Agenda Item Wording: Approval to purchase land for conservation - Lazy Lagoon subdivision.
Item Background: This acquisition is proposed to protect property rights, protect natural resources,
retire commercial development rights, and to preserve greenspace along the US 1 scenic corridor.
The subject property consists of eight contiguous lots (0.9 acre) providing 200 feet of frontage on US 1
on the bayside of Key Largo at MM 100. The subject property is zoned Suburban Commercial (SC) in
the front and Improved Subdivision (IS) in the rear. The subject property consists of tropical hardwood
hammock and the Growth Management Division recommends acquisition pursuant to BOCC
Resolution 223-2004.
Land stewardship needs for this property are anticipated to be relatively high, due to the property's
location in the downtown area of Key Largo,
The Executive Director has executed the Land Authority's standard purchase contract for this
transaction. The agenda packet spreadsheet lists the legal description, purchase price, and estimated
closing costs.
Advisory Committee Action: On November 18, 2004 the Committee voted 4/0 to approve this item.
Previous Governing Board Action: On June 16, 2004, sitting as the BOCC, the Board approved
Resolution 223-2004 directing the Growth Management Division to recommend the purchase of small
hammock parcels not covered by Florida Forever funds,
