Dear Ms. Gun;
I am writing to apply for the District V advisory committee at-large seat. I am a native
Floridian who vacationed in the Keys for many years before moving down in the summer of
1998. I truly enjoy the lifestyle here and consider the Keys my home.
My employment history is summarized on the attached resume. As you can see, I have
extensive experience with tourism-related companies. I grew up working at Walt Disney
World then worked in management positions at both Disney and Universal after college.
Since moving to the Keys I had two-year engagements at both Ocean Reef Club and the
Cheeca Lodge & Spa. While at Cheeca I worked closely with General Manager Peter Henry
who was active with the TDC.
Currently I am the owner and operator of Tropical Business Solutions, a local management
consulting firm located in Key Largo and am in the process of purchasing H&R Block of the
Upper Keys. I am an active PADI Divemaster (#175522) and have worked part-time in the
dive industry for many years.
My involvement in civic and political organizations has been minimal to this point and that is
the primary reason I am applying for this position. I really enjoy the Keys lifestyle and
realize that there are many influences working to change it. For better or worse, I feel a
responsibility to be part of the process.
I feel qualified to partiCipate in the process for a number of reasons. First, I am an Upper
Keys homeowner and resident so I understand and have a personal stake in issues that
affect this area. Secondly, I am a businessman who understands the importance of tourism
on the local economy. Finally, I have both the formal education and practical experience in
the tourism industry that allow me to understand the macro and micro issues affecting our
community.
I would consider it an honor and a privilege to work with the Tourist Development Council
by serving on the District V Advisory Committee. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jerry Gaddis
