Presentation of Twenty Y ears-of-Service Award
To
Calvin Allen
Calvin Allen started with Monroe County in November 1984, as an Assistant
County Attorney. He has been in the Management Service Division since December
1990, when he received a promotion into the Equal Employment Coordinator position in
the Human Resources Department.
He is in charge of monitoring all employment
practices regarding the Equal Employment Opportunity Act and serves as our American
with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator.
Calvin mediates many complaints and
grievances, between employees and their departments.
Calvin serves as the staff
representative to the Grievance Council. He is well respected by his fellow employees
and they seek out his guidance on how to resolve problems. Calvin monitors all
unemployment claims and files protest where appropriate resulting in significant savings
to the county.
When we presented Calvin with his 15 Years-of-Service award he had just
received the Florida Bar President's pro Bono Service Award for 1999 from the Sixteenth
Judicial Circuit. His civic endeavors has continued since then with his successful efforts
to have a Monroe County Judge restored posthumously to his judgeship. He has been
certified as a Circuit Court Mediator. He has also assisted with the county be awarded
$750,000 for a CDBG Grant because Monroe County received the highest number of
bonus points for minority employment. Not only is Calvin an asset to the community; he
is a great asset to the county.
