A RESOLllTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF' MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA,
URGING THE: llNITEI> STATES NAVY TO ALLOW NAS
KEY WEST CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES TO OCCUpy
MILITARY HOUSING AT THE NATIONAL MEDIAN
GROSS RENT PERCENTAGE OF HOllSEHOLD INCOME
FOR CIVILIAN RENTAL RATES.
WHEREAS. the United States Navy is considering the application of the national
median gross rent percentage of household income to military family housing in Key West for
civilian employees; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission of Key West did adopt Resolution No. 05-088 urging
the provision ofaffordablc rental opportunities at NAS Key West to civilian employees; and
WHEREAS, the request for making affordable housing available to civilian employees is
based upon the high cost ofliving, particularly housing, in Key West; and
WHEREAS, the County Commission of Monroe County hopes that the availability of
military housing at NAS Key West to civilian employees will reduce the demand for affordable
rental housing in Key West, making it more accessible for Key West residents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that
I. The United States Navy is hereby urged to provide affordable rental opportunities
at NAS Key West to civilian employees
2. The Clerk is directed to mail copies of this resolution to the commander ofNAS
KW and the mayor of the City of Key West.
3, This Resolution shall become efTective upon the date of its adoption herein.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County,
Florida at a regular meeting of said board held on April 20, 2005.
