MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA, AMENDING SEC. 3-6(1)1 MONROE
COUNTY CODE, IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE LICENSING OF DOGS
FROM ONE YEAR TO MIRROR THE RABIES VACCINATION
COVE RAGE; PROVIDING FOR SEVE RABILITY; PROVIDING FOR
THE RE PEAL OF ALL ORDI NANCES INCONSISTENT HE REWITH;
PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION INTO TH E MONROE COU NTY
COD E OF ORDJNANC~S; AND PRQVIDI NG AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS1 Section 3-6(1), Monroe County Code, requires dogs to be licensed
on an annual basis; and
WHEREAS, most dog owners obtain licenses only at the time of rabies
vaccinations; and
WHEREAS, rabies vaccinatfol1s may be adm in istered every yea r but are
normally administered every three years; now therefore,

follows:
( 1) Any person who owns or keeps in Monroe County a dog SiX (6) months of age
or older shall cause the animal to be licensed annuaH',' upon establishing residency
in Monroe County or upon reaching the age of six (6) month_s_.9nd theI:e_~Jter:_.;35
conforms to the J;;.urr~nl..~t.2w_2. .Qf the ra bies vaccjnat~on. A I icense shall conStst of
a rabies vaccination and license certificate and a rabies vaccination and license tag
for the animal's collar. License cert~ficates and license tags may be issued oniy by
the department manager and licensed vetennarians and shall be valid for eFTe the
nu m ber of yea rs wh ich the r~~Y~J;:_qf1ation covers, No other license certjficate
and license tag shall be va I id in Monroe Cou nty . A I icense certificate a nd license
tag issued for one anima~ is only vafid for the animal licensed and is not
tra nsferable,
Section 2, If any sectionl subsection! sentencel clause or pmvision of this
ordinance is held mvaHd/ the remainder of thrs ordinance shall not be affected by such
i nva I id~ty.
