AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners in recognition
of the late Leonard H. Knowles.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Mr. Knowles, a lifetime resident of Key West. Some of his
accomplishments were that he chaired the Keys Utility Board for 28 years, worked as Chief
Deputy for the Property Appraisers Office for 10 years, served as Director and President of the
Board of Directors of the Southernmost Federal Credit Union, served on the Employees Pension
Board for the City of Key West, and was a 33rd degree Mason of the Key West Consistory.
Leonard Knowles never hesitated in his service to his community.

RESOLUTION NO. -2006
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY IN
RECOGNITION OF THE LATE LEONARD H. KNO\VLES
WHEREAS. Leonard H. Knowles passed away on December 30, 2005, in Miami,
Florida; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Knowles was a member of the Anchor Lodge #182, the Elks,
Moose Lodge, and Eastern Star, and was a 33 degree mason of the Key West Consistory; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Knowles earned a diploma in electric instruments, was the
superintendent of the meter and commercial department of Key West Electric, and was a
member of the Florida Municipal Electric Association and the American Public Power
Association; and
WHEREAS, was elected to the Utility Board of the City of Key West and served as its
chairman for many years, also serving on the employees pension board; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Knowles also worked for the Monroe County Property Appraiser,
retiring after ten years as chief deputy, and also served as director and president of the board of
directors of the Southernmost Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, Leonard Knowles is survived by his wife lennine, children Harold, Lisa
(Albury), and Denise, grandchildren and cousins; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1: Hereby adopts this Resolution as an expression to the family of their
deepest sympathy in the passing of the late Leonard H. Knowles, and in great appreciation of the
service he gave to his community.
Section 2: Forwards a copy of this Resolution to the family of Leonard H. Knowles
expressing the Board's sorrow.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
meeting of said Board held on the day of , A.D., 2006.
