AGENDA ITEM WORDING:
Approval to declare two Monroe County Transportation Program buses as surplus property and donate
both of them to Habitat for Humanity of Key West and Lower Florida Keys.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
These vehicles are assigned to the Social Services Transportation Program and have been set aside to
declare as surplus property due to the age of the bus, high mileage and high maintenance costs, and
they have been replaced with new buses. The donation of these buses to Habitat for Humanity will
enable them to serve the Lower Keys in transporting workers and volunteers to various Habitat
worksites. Vehicle number 1915 is a 1996 Ford/Eldorado Aeorlite 20ST Bus and vehicle number 1927
is a 1998 Ford/Aerolite 20ST Bus and they each have a current estimated value of under $5,000.

various Habitat worksites, be it an outreach program or a disaster response program as we are

GA. We currently have 40 volunteers living on site at the Habitat for Humanity location on Big
Pine-Key and need a more cohesive- way tub ell ~puI t them back and forth. to the jobsites as most
do not bring tow vehicles for personal transpodation when they come. to. a job site. We also have
access to 100 Navy volunteers who are ready to help Habitat complete work but need to have a
way to. transport them across. tbe. Keys. AIso.facing.those who.driv& i& where-to park, with the
donation of the busses parking is taken out of the equation for those volunteers as it is easier to
park one vehicle as opposed to- t8-different one;
To date we have completed 31 ~with more-on the way and would appreciate the County's
donation of these busses to help ease the cost of transportation that we are facing.
