ITEM BACKGROUND: The County's storm drains, catch basins and injection wells need to be clean out and maintained on a regular basis, especially after hurricane events. The last time the County's systems were completely cleaned out was in 2001 at a cost of over $230,000. Current estimates to have the entire system cleaned out only one time is approximately $1,000,000. The Board recently ratified the purchase of the V ACTOR truck and additional staff are needed to operate the equipment and run this program on a consistent basis. Once the County's systems are cleaned, we may be able to provide this service to other governmental agencies and bring in revenue to the County. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: On 12/21/05, the BOCC ratified the purchase of a V ACTOR sewer/drainage system cleaning truck. CONTRACT/AGREEMENTCHANGES: wa STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Approval of one new Heavy Equipment Operator and one new Equipment Operator for the Road Department using currently budgeted funding.
