C.2.a
Chief Ryan Johnson began his career as a Stock Island Volunteer Firefighter in 1996. By 1999, he
obtained certification as a firefighter from the Florida State Fire College and began working as a
Firefighter for NAS Key West. With a strong desire to return to his roots and serve the community where
his father was born and raised, Chief Johnson earned a position as a Firefighter/EMT with Monroe
County Fire Rescue in 2001. Chief Johnson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2008 and served
as an officer on Monroe County Fire Rescues'first ladder truck until he was promoted to Captain in
2015. Chief Johnson was established as an Acting Battalion Chief in 2017 and was promoted to the rank
of Battalion Chief in November of 2019. He is proud to serve our remarkable island community and be
apart of the exciting growth with Monroe County Fire Rescue. y
Fire Chief Hudson says, he has had the pleasure to serve with Chief Johnson since 2012. Early in his o
career with MCFR he recognized that Chief Johnson possessed the strong attributes and work ethic it
would take to be a successful leader for our community and fire department. He could not be any
prouder of Chief Johnson's professional and educational accomplishments he has earned. Chief Johnson
is a rock star for MCFR.
