ITEM BACKGROUND: The residents and visitors of Monroe County, and the State of Florida, benefit daily from the efforts of skilled dispatchers, firefighters, firefighter-EMT's, firefighter paramedics, emergency and trauma nurses, educators, emergency and trauma physicians and support personnel. CONTRACT/AGREEMENT CHANGES: STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: TOTAL COST: INDIRECT COST: BUDGETED: Yes No DIFFERENTIAL OF LOCAL PREFERENCE: COST TO COUNTY: SOURCE OF FUNDS: REVENUE PRODUCING: Yes No AMOUNT PER MONTH APPROVED BY: County Atty _ OMB/Purchasing Risk Management DOCUMENTATION: Included XX DISPOSITION: Revised 7/09 Not Required AGENDA ITEM # Year Mayor's Proclamation EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK May 20 -- 26, 2012 WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of firefighters, firefighter-EMTs, firefighter -paramedics, emergency and trauma nurses, dispatchers, educators, emergency and trauma physicians and support personnel; and WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week; now THEREFORE, as the mayor of Monroe County, Florida in recognition of this event from May 20 through 26, 2012, do hereby proclaim this to be EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK with the theme, EMS: More Than A Job A Calling.", and Wednesday, May 23r`1 is Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day.
