AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Mayor's Proclamation of Recognition of Rylan Chapa's athletic
accomplishments and dedication.
ITEM BACKGROUND: Chapa became the first Monroe County
earning the gold medal in the class 1-A, 101-pound weight class by snatch lifting 100 pounds. She
also placed third earning a bronze medal in the traditional lift of the same class.
Her commitment and dedication inspires others and she serves as a positive role model to other
students. She also participates in volleyball, tennis, track and field, while maintaining a 4.0 grade
point average, third in her senior class. She is a member of the Florida High School Athletic
Association Student Athlete Advisory Council.

Proclamation
In Recognition of Rylan Athletic
Accomplishments and Dedication
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners recognizes
the value of youth sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle, learning life skills, building
confidence and self- esteem, encouraging friendships, and teaching teamwork; and
WHEREAS
County weightlifter to win an FHSAA, Florida High School Athletic
Association State Championship earning the coveted gold medal in the class 1-A,
101-pound weight class by snatch lifting 100 pounds and placed third, earning a
bronze medal in the traditional lifts of the same class; and
WHEREAS
she serves as a positive role model to other students as she participates in volleyball,
soccer, tennis and track and field in addition to weightlifting while maintaining a
grade point average of 4.0 and is third in her senior class. She is also a member of the
Florida High School Athletic Associations Student Athlete Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners would like
to recognize Rylan
her, her coach Jesse Schubert, and her family on her tremendous accomplishments and
thanks the Katherine S. Gradick Girls Athletic Trust for its financial support for the
girls weightlifting program.
NOW THEREFORE, the Monroe County Commissioners hereby
congratulates Rylan Chapa for her outstanding weightlifting accomplishments and
bringing home the Gold and Bronze medals to the Marathon High School, Monroe
County School District and the Great City of Marathon. We are so proud of you.
