Gloria Goodman started her career with Monroe County as a Library Assistant at the Marathon Branch in 1982. She quickly became familiar with Library procedures and equally quickly became recognized by the Marathon patrons for her warmth and helpfulness. Early on in her professional development, Gloria was assigned responsibility for developing and presenting the Children's programming for the Marathon Branch. Her natural talent and ability in this area was obvious, and these programs developed into a major attraction at the branch. Many Marathon children came to know and love her as "Mrs. Goodman, the Library Lady." Some of those same young patrons are now grown with children of their own, and now bring them to the Library so that they, too, can come to appreciate the love of reading and storytelling so dear to this "Library Lady." When the position of Branch Manager became open in 1991, the selection of Gloria for that assignment was a natural one. Her experience at that branch and her support from the Marathon community made her the obvious choice. This was made clear when she was named "Monroe County Employee of the Month" in recognition of her achievements as Branch Manager. Gloria Goodman became known for her community involvement and her caring for those around her. As Manager, she continued her work with the children of the area, through outreach to the schools as well as programs at the Library. She completed the studies for a degree in education, and has applied that knowledge to her interaction with her young patrons. Her mission to share her love of books and reading with children who cannot always come to the Library remains at the core of what she does daily. Gloria's dedication to Library service has been a recognized hallmark in Marathon for thirty years, and the entire community recognizes her contribution to the people of Monroe County. We congratulate Gloria Goodman and sincerely thank her for thirty years of service.
