Since 2015, multiple storms including Hurricane Irma, have impacted the project site. Following hurricane Irma, several densely vegetated areas no longer exist leaving vast areas of fill. If left as is, these areas would result weeds, erosion, and an undesirable walking surface within the park. Without a permanent irrigation system planned, sodding these areas with Bahia Grass was recommended by the Landscape Architect. This change order encompasses all additional work including all labor, equipment, materials and temporary irrigation necessary to sod an additional 17,500 square feet of fill area within the park. No additional contract time is required to complete this additional work. Change order is 2.91% of original contract price. With concurrence from the Architect, collar ties were added at every truss location in the Commissary Building. While connecting the Honeymoon Cottage plumbing to the existing septic tank, unforeseen damage to the existing septic line was uncovered. As such, additional repairs and cleaning were required to put the building into service. To better preserve the historic heart pine flooring in both the Commissary and Honeymoon Cottage buildings, the Contractor suggested applying a sealer following the wood stain application. With the concurrence of the Architect, both floor stain and the protective sealer application were accepted to better preserve the historic flooring. Upon the Commissary building being moved back into original location, it was discovered a nearby coconut palm was close enough to the building to cause damage during heavy winds and should be removed to protect the structure. Sod installation was also determined to be beneficial and would help prevent dust and mud to keep buildings clean and prevent erosion. No additional time is required for these changes.
