ITEM BACKGROUND: The Freeman Justice Center lobby is currently being expanded. The original lobby design did not provide ample interior space for court users to remain free from outside elements. Part of the expansion provides space for a second x-ray machine and magnetometer. Having a second screening station allows Court Security to streamline the screening process on heavier court days and also allows court users to move more rapidly through the process. Two quotes were obtained for this purchase(Smiths Detection and AS&E). The current system in place at the Freeman Justice Center is from Smiths Detection and the quote obtained is for an upgraded model of that system. The AS&E quote for a similar system is $48,000, not including installation or roller tables. The quote for the machine from Smiths Detection includes the roller tables, installation and software for$27,791. Because of the price and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies` familiarity of the system,we are requesting to purchase the system from Smiths Detection. All monies used toward this project are from the Court Facilities Fund and have no impact on the General Fund.
