Historically, the Monroe County's Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has supported our mission of offering -scholarships, mentors and hope to at -risk students from low-income (below federal poverty guidelines) families. MCSO is our only partner providing both countless mentors and financial support that has ranged from $18,000 to $100,000 annually. With our rigid requirements that all TSiC students remain drug- and crime -free, we have had a significant impact in Monroe by instilling the importance of good teenage behavior, with resulting crime reduction. Moreover, TSiC students have become role -models in their schools. MCSO officers, visibly mentoring on campus, have helped immeasurably. Over 400 students have graduated from Monroe high schools and gone on to college; plus over 200 additional middle -and high-school students are enrolled presently. We expect to add a further 50 students in the next year. This request includes $25,000 for scholarships; funds for scholarships are matched --dollar for dollar --by Project STARS at the Florida Prepaid College Foundation in Tallahassee, Florida. Additionally, all donors at this level are honored by having a "named scholar" at the 2012 graduation ceremonies; there will be the "2012 Monroe County Sheriff's Scholar" recognition for a high -achieving senior. This request also includes $10,000 for the Crossroads Adventure; the first mandatory event for all newly -signed TSiC middle school students. Our partnership with the Sheriffs Youth Ranch has resulted in a custom -designed leadership curriculum including team -building, self-esteem, goal -setting, and making correct choices. During this trip, there are guided tours of Santa Fe College and the University of Florida, enabling 7`h and 8`h graders to visualize college and university life. - We look forward to having your favorable response to this request, and I'm available to provide whatever further information you require. If it is possible to add an additional $2,000 to make $25,000, the department can have a 2012 TSIC Named Scholar. You would be at our Arch Angel status which would afford you your own scholar. We announce to the community of your Named Scholar and a presentation to the scholar will take place at our annual Graduation Event on Saturday, June 2. The news media will also be notified. If the Sheriff could give it some consideration, that would greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day. We, as your State Association Presidents, are writing to ask for each agency's support and help in recognizing Florida's missing children. As many of you know, in 1999 the Florida Legislature created Florida Missing Children's Day. The ceremony will be held at the State Capitol in Tallahassee on September 10, 2012 and will once again honor law enforcement officers and civilians statewide who have assisted in missing child cases. We hope to raise statewide awareness in the prevention of child abduction and sexual exploitation and encourage you to attend this poignant event. It is truly an experience you will not forget and it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge everyone who have been struck by this type of tragedy and suffered such a great loss. Please take the time to view the video of the Florida Missing Children's Day ceremony that illustrates the significance of this event. It can be found at http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/MCICSearch/AdvisoryBoard.asp. We would also like to invite you to join us in financially supporting this initiative by making a contribution from your Trust Fund or Contraband Forfeiture Fund for this important statewide, law enforcement sponsored event. Our attorneys have opined that Florida Missing Children's Day support is an authorized use of these funds. We believe that one of the most beneficial uses of our law enforcement trust fund monies is the support of Florida Missing Children's Day, Please participate in this event by returning your contribution along with the attached pledge form and by attending Florida Missing Children's Day 2012 in Tallahassee. We are proud of what we accomplished last year, seeing a record number of law enforcement agencies generously supporting this event! Thank you. Governor Rick Scott, school age children, many law enforcement officers, families of missing children and those families whose children did not survive their abduction, are invited to attend the ceremony on September 10th. Civilians who have aided in missing child cases throughout the state will join them. The Florida Missing Children's Day Foundation, Inc. has been created pursuant to FS 683.231 and provides FDLE with assistance, funding, and promotional support for activities authorized for Florida Missing Children's Day. The Foundation's sole mission is to raise the necessary private and public funds to conduct the annual Florida Missing Children's Day. We hope you will attend Florida Missing Children's Day 2012 and see for yourself just how your financial support makes such a difference in the lives of victim families. You will see first-hand how important it is to recognize our law enforcement officers and civilians who work so diligently to save the lives of children.
