Originally from New Jersey, Mike is a fourth-generation Cuban American and is very proud of following in his father's footsteps into military service. As a military child,he traveled to Japan, Germany, California, Hawaii, and settled at Homestead Air Force Base. 0 For as long as he can remember, he wanted to serve his country and community. As a result, he was a combat controller in the Marines for 13 years, including a tour in Iraq. Once out of the military,he looked ' for a way to fulfill his desire to serve in a meaningful way while attending Miami-Dade and Santa Fe colleges, completing the emergency medical technician and firefighter certifications. In January 2012,Mike joined Monroe County Fire Rescue with a strong desire to do more.As an indication of his dedication,he drove 230 miles round trip every day of the week. Looking back on his service, Mike enjoyed being the Logistics Sections Chief during Hurricane Irma, which tested everyone to the fullest. He diligently served the community with his brothers and sisters at his side, including during COVID-19.Mike U) has said that the most challenging part about retiring from Monroe County Fire Rescue will be not being CL with his fire family every day after so many years. 2 Mike's fellow firefighters will remember him as a person who always has a smile because he enjoyed coming to work and always cares about helping people. 0 Mike Elias provided dedicated service to this community and Monroe County Fire Rescue has been honored to have him among its ranks. a We wish Mike and his family the best in his retirement and congratulate him for his years of service to Monroe County and the Marines. c2 4- 0 U) c2 E c Packet Pg. 36
