ITEM BACKGROUND: F.S. 316.006 (3)(a) grants counties jurisdiction to place and maintain traffic control devices upon all streets and highways under their original jurisdictions. The two STOP signs on 2nd Street are no longer needed because the intersection was eliminated with the abandonment of the west leg of MacDonald Avenue to the Stock Island Fire Station property and the east leg of MacDonald Avenue being abandoned to form part of the Wreckers Cay Housing Development. There is no longer an intersection of two county roads at this location and therefore 2nd Street is the through street. Stop signs have been installed on the driveways leading to 2nd Street from Wreckers Cay and the Stock Island Fire Station. The attached figure shows the location of the two STOP signs to be removed.
