for Be Like Mike Day, as a part of`Be Like Mike" week October 16-22, 2022 planned by the

BE LIKE MIKE DAY
WHEREAS, Mike Forster, a dear friend to everyone who knew him, as a former Monroe
County Commissioner, Islamorada Village Council member, and Board member of
United Way of Collier and the Keys, he was a beloved member of the Florida Keys
community; and
WHEREAS, "Mangrove Mike" was well-known for his generous spirit and concern for
others by feeding the Key West and Monroe County communities during the COVID-19
pandemic and following Hurricane Irma; and helping children and animals in need; and
his commitment to the ocean and its and marine life; and
WHEREAS, Mike worked tirelessly to better his community in any way he could, whether
it was organizing food giveaways, hosting MARC clients for dinner and dance at
Mangrove Mike's, making lunch for the Boys and Girls Club members on their annual
trip to Miami, through his unending support of law enforcement and veterans; and
countless other gestures of generosity.
WHEREAS, Mike was a believer in "paying it forward", promoting goodwill and
generosity through random acts of kindness; and

WHEREAS, Mike wanted to help, make things better, and improve the world around him
in any way he was able; and
THEREFORE, I, David Rice, by the power invested in me as Mayor of Monroe County,
Florida, do hereby proclaim Mike's birthday, October 21, 2022 as
BE LIKE MIKE DAY
In Monroe County, and encourage the citizens of Monroe County to do random acts of
kindness, promoting goodwill and generosity, and to participate in the first Be Like Mike
week planned for October 16 - 22, 2022 by the United Way of Collier and the Keys.
Everyone is especially asked to continue Mike's legacy as we "Feed the Keys" by
donating non-perishable items to local food pantries on Friday, October 21, 2022.
