AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval from the BOCC to add one (1) new FTE (full time
equivalent) Division Chief position in the FY23 operating budget for Monroe County Fire Rescue
(MCFR). MCFR is seeking to formalize the department's organizational structure by designating
specific technical divisions. This position will serve as "third-in-command" of the fire department
operations/administration/Trauma Star and will have the rank of Division Chief.
Monroe County Fire Rescue is seeking to formalize the department's organizational
structure by designating specific technical divisions. Consequently, MCFR is seeking BOCC
approval to include a new Division Chief position in the Fiscal Year 2023 operating budget.
The range for a pay grade 319 position is $96,449.73 (minimum) to $154,319.56
(maximum).
The new Division Chief position is required to perform additional administrative budget
responsibilities, provide direction and leadership to fire rescue and administrative staff, to
establish policies, set goals and objectives, and serve as liaison between the department
and the community. This position will assist and direct the day-to-day activities of the
department and ensure ordinary assignments are carried out in accordance with
established department policy, procedures, and guidelines. Additionally, this position will
provide a path for successions planning for the retirement of senior staff officers. This new
position is intended to increase the effectiveness and management of the Fire Department.
Lastly, this position will serve as a "third-in-command" of the fire department
operations/administration and will have the rank of Division Chief.
