A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY IN
RECOGNITION OF THE LATE EUGENE RICHARD LYTTON, SR.
WHEREAS, Eugene "Gene" R. Lytton, 72, passed away on June 9th, 2003 in the Fannin Regional
Hospital in Blue Ridge, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Gene received his basic education in Dade County, Florida and graduated from the old St.
Mary's High School. He received his B.A. in History from Salve Regina University in Newport, R,I.; and
WHEREAS, He joined the U,S. Coast Guard in 1950, retiring as a Lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, Gene resided on Cudjoe Key for many years and was active in many organizations. He was
chairman of the Sugarloaf Elementary School Advisory Committee, president of the United States Propeller Club-
Port of Key West and the Big Pine Key Lions Club, He was on the Board of Directors of the Tax Payers League of
the Florida Keys and the Big Pine Key Chapter of the DA V.
WHEREAS, Gene was accepted for lifetime status as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer by the
National Institute of Governmental Purchasing. The designation of CPPO is the highest status granted by the
Institute and recognized nationally as a most prestigious credential in the public purchasing field; and
WHEREAS, Gene was elected to the Board of County Commissioners District 2 seat in 1986 and served
until 1990. He was County Mayor from 1987 to 1988; and
WHEREAS, Gene is survived by his beloved wife Catherine Lowe Lytton; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan
Claudette and Ret. Commander Jack Schaffer; sons and daughters-in law, Ret. Lt, Eugene "Rick" Jr. and Julie
Renae Lytton, P. Joseph and Jacqueline Lytton, a step-son, Philip Lowe, one brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and
Barbara Lytton, plus eight grandchildren; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE
COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1: Hereby adopts this Resolution as an expression to the family of their deepest sympathy in
the passing of the late Gene Lytton, and in great appreciation of the service he gave to his community,
Section 2:
Forwards a copy of this Resolution to the family of Gene Lytton expressing the Board's
sorrow,
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
meeting of said Board held on the 18th day of June, A.D., 2003,
