Previously, Monroe County applied through the Florida EMS competitive grant program and was awarded a grant that funded the purchase, training and placement of AED devices in several Monroe County Sheriff s Department patrol units, including one for the City of Key Colony Beach Police Department. In studies conducted by the American Heart Association and others, early defibrillation has been proven to increase the incidence of successful resuscitation of victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
