January 14, 2000 Mayor Shirley Freeman 530 Whitehead Street Key West, FL 33040 Dear Mayor Freeman, The YMCA of Key West serves the children and families in the Lower Keys, from Big Pine Key to Bahama Village. At the January 12,2000 meeting of the Board of Directors, there was discussion about the County Commission's distribution of it's share of monies received from the Drug Forfeiture Fund. It was unanimously agreed that YMCA of Key West urge the County Commissioners to consider dedicating these funds to establish a trust fund for the purpose of enhancing recreational opportunities in Monroe County. We ask the County Commissioners to consider the benefits of providing recreational opportunities to the youth in Monroe County when deciding the best use of the Drug Forfeiture Fund proceeds.
