RE: Agenda Item - Request for Expenditures from Law Enforcement Trust Fund
Dear Mr. Roberts:
I would like to request that the Commission authorize the following expenditures from the
Law Enforcement Trust Fund:
$172,400.00 TIlls sum would be used to support this agency's continued participation in
the IMPACT Task Force. The mission of IMPACT is to interrupt money-laundering
activity based in the South Florida area. Money launderers operating in Florida offer their
services throughout this hemisphere. Their activity is essential to continued criminal
enterprise, and poisonous to our local economy.
$ 25,000.00 TIlls sum will be transferred to the Monroe County School District for the
current school year. It will be used to fund a variety of currently unbudgeted programs, each
of which has been approved by Superintendent Michael J. Lannon.
$ 22,000.00 TIlls amount will pay for the final phase of the Law Enforcement Memorial
Project.
TOTAL: $219,400.00
I hereby certify that these expenditures are lawful pursuant to the Florida Contraband Act.
There will be no recurring expenses in the existing budget.
Please feel free to contact me or my General Counsel, Mark L. Willis, should you have any
questions or concerns regarding this request.

Mayor Shirley Freeman

Key West, FL

Dear Mayor Freeman,
The YMCA of Key West serves the children and families in the Lower Keys, from Big Pine Key
to Bahama Village. At the January 12,2000 meeting of the Board of Directors, there was
discussion about the County Commission's distribution of it's share of monies received from the
Drug Forfeiture Fund. It was unanimously agreed that YMCA of Key West urge the County
Commissioners to consider dedicating these funds to establish a trust fund for the purpose of
enhancing recreational opportunities in Monroe County.
We ask the County Commissioners to consider the benefits of providing recreational
opportunities to the youth in Monroe County when deciding the best use of the Drug Forfeiture
Fund proceeds.
Sincerely,
Linda Shield
Chairman of the Board
