A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSION OF MONROE
COUNTY, flORIDA SUPPORTING REVISION 5, THE CONSERVATION
AMENDMENT.
WHEREAS, Monroe County and the Florida Keys support unique ecosystems such as coral reefs
and tropical hardwood forests which are vital to our tourist economy and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Monroe County has been the beneficiary of millions of dollars of financial
assistance from Preservation 2000 which has provided funds for acquisition of environmentally
sensitive lands throughout the Florida Keys; and
WHEREAS, the acquisition of these environmentally sensitive lands has provided important
places for recreation areas, habitat for wildlife, and open space to support our quality of life; and
WH EREAS, one of the important component programs of Preservation 2000 is the Florida
Communities Trust program which gives grants to local governments and has helped Monroe County
balance the needs of environmental protection with the need to protect property rights; and
WHEREAS, the bond authority for Preservation 2000 will soon expire and the land acquisition

programs that it supports are scheduled to end next year, unless Florida's co~tu~n ~n F

WHEREAS, the Florida Constitution Revision Commission has placed ~~ b&llot~r

and Wildlife Conservation Commission; and Q) Q
amended to extend the authority; and
WHEREAS, Revision 5 authorizes the Legislature to continue to issue bonds for land acquisition,
park improvements, water resource development restoration of natural systems, and historic
preservation; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA
that:
Section 1.
The Board hereby endorses Revision 5, providing for Conservation of Natural
Resources and encourages the citizens of Monroe County to give thoughtful and favorable
consideration to this important constitutional amendment.
Section 2.
This resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage as provided
bylaw.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
regular meeting of said Board held on the 21 s tday of October, 1998.
