WHEREAS, Hurricane Georges impacted Key West and t~ Lowe:q:-
Keys on September 25, 1998; and "p (Tl N
WHEREAS, widespread devastation was concentrated between Big
Pine Key and Sugarloaf Key; and
WHEREAS, an emergency situation has been created by the
destruction of affordable housing in the Lower Keys; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross has published the following
findings:
Total Number of Homes Damaged.................................................4,349
Number of Families Financially Assisted to Date............................1 ,026
Number of Individuals in Families Financially Assisted.................. .2,668

WHEREAS, there is a continued need for volunteer support
throughout the long-term recovery process; and

WHEREAS, the temporary placement of two mobile homes as
offices/ storage facilities will create a deminimis impact on the level of
service on US 1; and
WHEREAS, Father Tony has agreed to place these units in a
secure storage area if any hurricane watches are announced for Monroe
County; and
WHEREAS, all sanitation requirements will be met through the use
of the Church facilities; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD
COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
OF COUNTY
That the Board of County Commissioners authorizes the issuance of a No
Charge permit for the temporary placement of two (2) mobile homes
located at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Big Pine Key for a period of one
year, beginning on November 12, 1998.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Monroe County, Florida, at a regular meeting of said Board held on the
12th day of November, 1998.
