ORDINANCE NO.029 -1997
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY,
FLORIDA, AMENDING SECTION 6-59, MONROE COUNTY CODE; REQUIRING TECHNICAL
TESTING FOR THE FOLLOWING SPECIALTY CONTRACTORS: STEEL REINFORCING AND
IRON, GLAZING, DUNNITE AND SAND BLASTING, SIGN ELECTRICIAN, FIRE ALARM, LOW
VOLTAGE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF ALL
ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR INCORPORATION INTO THE
MONROE COUNTY CODE OF ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. Section 6-59(II) shall be amended to read as follows:
II. Testing, except for administrative exams, shall not be required for licensing in the
specialty trades enumerated provided the applicant has had at least two (2) years'
experience in the filed, demonstrated to the satisfaction of the licensing board, for the
following specialty trades
Acoustical ceiling
Aluminum specialties
Cabinet and millwork
Drilling auger
Drywall
Fence erection
Flooring
Garage door opener/installation
Heating, ventilation and A/C duct installation
House setter
Insulation
Landscaping
Masonry
Mobile home maintenance and repair
Mobile home se -up and tie -down
Painting and decorating
Plastering
Satellite, TV antenna, telephone and other communications equipment installation
Septic tank cleaning
Solar products
Solar window tinting
Tile, marble and terrazzo
Waterproofing and roof painting
The following list of specialty trades shall always require testing for purposes of licensure:
Burglar alarms
Demolition
Fire alarm
Gasoline tank and pump
Glazing
Gunnite and sand blasting
House moving
Lawn sprinkler
Low voltage
Structural steel erection
Sian electrician
Sign erection
Steel reinforcing and iron
Swimming pool service
Welding
Persons seeking a certificate of competency in any of the specialty trades other
than burglar alarms, demolition, gasoline tank and pump, house moving, lawn
sprinkler, structural steel erection, sign erection, swimming pool servicing, and welding
may substitute for the two (2) years' experience in the field, a minimum grade of
seventy (70) percent on the respective technical examination provided by Block and
Associates.
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed
to the extent of such conflict.
Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, item, change or provision of this
ordinance is held invalid, the remainder of this ordinance shall not be affected by such invalidity.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon receipt of official notice
from the Office of the Secretary of State of the State of Florida that this ordinance has been filed with
said Office.
Section 5. The Clerk of the Board is hereby directed to forward a copy of this Ordinance
to Municipal Code Corporation for incorporation into the Monroe County Code of Ordinances.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of Monroe County, Florida, at a
regular meeting of the Board held on the 16thday of July 1997.
