The project is eligible for reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). ITEM BACKGROUND: 1,400 feet of the south end of Boca Chica Road was damaged during Hurricane Irma and required repairs consisting of roadway reconstruction, milling, re-paving, re- grading roadway shoulders,pavement markings, signage, rip-rap and sheet pile retaining walls. The BOCC approved the contract for construction of the repairs in May, 2022. After commencement of construction, the project site sustained further damage from high winds and storm surge from Hurricane Ian. The items included in the change order request reflect the additional work needed to make repairs resulting directly from Hurricane Ian. PREVIOUS RELEVANT BOCC ACTION: BOCC awarded American Empire Builders the construction contract in the amount of$1,100,007.95 on the May 18th, 2022 agenda meeting.
