ITEM BACKGROUND: The Little Duck Key Park is located at the West end of the Seven Mile Bridge at MM 40 on U.S. Hwy. 1. Over the years, this park has become known locally as the Veterans Memorial Park. The Parks & Beaches Department has collaborated with the Veterans Affairs Department and jointly have expressed a desire to rename this Park as the Veterans Memorial Beach in honor of numerous Keys' residents who have served in various branches of the U.S. Military. Both departments have ideas for additional ways to honor those who have served and how to incorporate them within the park. The renaming of the park to Veterans Memorial Beach is the first step in initiating this plan. Monroe County Code Sec. 18-27(a) and any other applicable provisions of the Code will be modified by this proposed ordinance change. Monroe County Parks & Beaches Advisory Board Approved the change during their November 7, 2022,public meeting.
