Resolution 612-1999 Commissioner Wilhelmina G. Harvey RESOLUTION NO. 612 -1999 A RESOLUTION IN RECOGNITION OF THE LATE DONALD E. BRASSINGTON WHEREAS, Donald E. Brassington passed away on Nov. 7, 1999, at the age of 77; and WHEREAS, Donald E. Brassington was a retired industry and Keys civic leader, decorated military veteran and pioneering Keys businessman; and WHEREAS, Donald E. Brassington served in the U.S. Navy in which he rose to chief petty officer. He served in both theaters of World War II. He served in major engagements in Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Salerno, Southern France, Okinawa and Iwo Jima in the Pacific, and on 13 Commando missions in Yugoslavia; and WHEREAS, Donald E. Brassington had retired six months ago as area manager in charge of quality control for Toppino, Inc. He joined the firm in the 1950s in Marathon, ultimately becoming a Vice-President of the Keys based industrial firm, with duties that included designing the concrete and supervising the supplying of 29 of the 37 Keys highway bridges replaced by the FDOT in the 1970s and early 1980s; and WHEREAS, Donald E. Brassington, was the recipient of a large number of achievement, civic and community service awards as well as recognition for his technical industrial contributions; and WHEREAS, Donald E. Brassington leaves his beloved wife, Josephine P. Brassington, and son, Donald Brian Brassington, and many, many friends to cherish his memory, now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MONROE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Board hereby adopts this Resolution as evidence of its regret and mourning for the passing of the late Donald E. Brassington. Section 2. Mayor Emeritus Harvey forwards a copy of this Resolution to his beloved wife, Josephine P. Brassington, and expresses the Board's sorrow.
