AGENDA ITEM WORDING: Approval for the addition of two (2) FTEs for the Facilities
Maintenance Department with each to be classified as a Maintenance Worker 2 reporting to the
Upper Keys. Facilities Maintenance demands have experienced substantial growth as new buildings
come online and older buildings are being renovated, thereby necessitating the need for additional
staff.
ITEM BACKGROUND:
In FY22, Facilities Maintenance and Parks and Beaches split into two separate units. Prior to the
split, both units worked as a team and were able to respond to needs at both facilities and parks
as needed. With the split, manpower significantly decreased for both units. Our current staff is
being pulled in several directions and as a result landscaping has suffered. We are working to
remedy this situation and part of the remedy is our request for the addition of two (2)
"Maintenance Worker 2" positions in the Upper Keys to keep up with the landscaping demands
at several County buildings.

Courthouse complex and the Murray Nelson. We considered the option of adding our remaining 7 U.
locations in the upper Keys to this contract, however due to the distance between each location
and their variety of landscaping needs, it is more cost effective to hire 2 full time employees to Uj
handle these locations. Additionally, these fulitime positions will be able to assist with other tasks U.
such as office relocations, delivery of voting machines and other ad hoc tasks that occur
occasionally.
