DISPOSITION:
YEARS OF SERVICE AWARD
LYNDA HAMBRIGHT
SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANTJ LOCAL HISTORY
Lynda began her service with Monroe County with the In-Home Service unit, but
left County employ temporarily to pursue other interests. She returned to us in
1991, taking a position as Library Assistant in the Local History unit at the Key
West Branch. When the Coopers and Lybrand study was completed, she was
recognized for her work and achievements on the job, and was promoted to
Senior Library Assistant.
Lynda covers all areas of Florida Keys history, but has a special interest in
genealogy. During the past 15 years, Lynda has completed the genealogy
courses from the National Genealogical Society and the famed National Archives
in Washington. She attended conferences held by the Florida and National
Genealogical Societies and has mastered numerous genealogical sources
available on the web, which have proved invaluable in her work with the
hundreds of patrons who have come to her for help in searching out items of
family history. Lynda has worked with newspaper writers, authors, and television
production companies, and was quoted in the book Undying Love, which dealt
with a famous and bizarre Key West love affair.
Working with her husband Tom, she has completed an index to The Key West
Citizen from the 1920's to the present and developed an index to the 30,000+
photographs in the Library's Florida History collection.
Lynda is constantly involved in a number of genealogy projects, contributing her
expertise to serve the growing demand in this highly specialized field. Her
attention to detail and knowledge of the field make her a go-to person for the
many patrons seeking help and guidance in their research.
Lynda has certainly created a special niche for herself and her expertise, and her
work is greatly appreciated by staff and patrons alike, We congratulate and thank
her for fifteen years of dedication and service to the people of Monroe County.
