Re: Monroe County Tourist Development Council
District V Advisory Committee At Large Representative
Addendum: Employment History
I have over 35 years of experience in the insurance industry beginning
with my employment with the Hartford Insurance Co. in Charlotte,
North Carolina. The Harford Insurance Co. offered various training
programs which lead to my eventual designation as a "Property
Underwriter" .
From there, I returned to my native South Florida and was hired by a
Miami Lloyd's broker. For the next eleven years, I had the privilege of
insuring many unique risks which continued to expand my insurance
background.
In 1983, my employer was being purchased by a major insurance
company; this was a juncture in my life. Do I stay on the wholesale side
of the industry or make a leap into the retail side where female agents
were few and far between? Roll forward to 2007, after being in the
retail side of the insurance industry for 24 years, I have owned and
managed a satellite office of T R Jones and Co. for the past five years. T
R Jones and Co. is a Homestead based insurance agency that was
founded in the 1940's.
As of 2-1-2007, our company was purchased by a nationwide broker;
Beecher Carlson, ranked 44th in size in the nation. This has opened
many doors due to their vast resources.
Our office remains committed to our Florida Keys clients and will
continue to support our community in every way possible.

Re: Monroe County Tourist Development Council
District V Advisory Committee At Large Representative
Addendum: Qualifications
From what my friends tell me, being a third generation South Floridian
makes me unique. I never really thought about it that way but I suppose
they do have a point.
A little history; my grandmother was born in Key West in a home
situated: 327 Margaret Street. Her name was Ruby Estelle Albury; her
mother was Mary Ann Pinder from Cherokee Sound in the Abaco's.
After my great grandmother lost her parents in a hurricane in the
Abaco's in the late 1800's, she was raised by her Uncle Tom Pinder who
lived on Green Turtle Cay. Uncle Tom and family in tow, eventually
immigrated to the Florida Keys. After arriving to Indian Key, another
hurricane destroyed their ship. My great grandmother was 13 years old
when all this happened.
Now back to my grandmother; Ruby married, William E. Booth, who
was a foreman working for Mr. Krome on the construction of the
overseas rail road. loft' say, "when he got to Key West he met my
grandmother; they were married a year later at the Methodist Church
on Duvall Street and lived happily ever after".
They moved to Homestead, Florida, where they had six children; one
was my mother, Mary Estelle Booth. As a child my mother would tell us
stories about the building of the railroad, her summers on the keys with
relatives, riding the train to the keys and on and on.
In summary, it is really hard to be brief with a history of how the keys
has changed from the time my great grand mother arrived at Indian
Key to what is happening today.
Having spent much of my childhood in the Florida Keys and now living
and working here full time would qualify me for this position.
I thank you for your consideration.
