She grew up in a small town in Northwestern Pennsylvania, graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and became a teacher. Her love for education and social services work has been her main focus, along with sharing her knowledge and helping so many people in need. Susan’s passion for her work in Social Services was an ongoing adventure. Her staff consisted of five Social Workers, 2 staff assistant’s and 1 administrative assistant covering Key West, Marathon, and Plantation Key. She supervised grant programs, as they became available such as the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. Susan worked together with many other organizations, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. She organized food drives each year for needy families, which became a countywide service and with the help of the Salvation Army, food vouchers have become an added bonus. Susan was always very compassionate about helping to meet community needs and the needs of the elderly and disabled. Susan was a member of the Interagency Council and earned a title as a Certified Public Manager. She was on the Healthy Start Board and belonged to NAMI. She holds three State of Florida Teaching Certificates and a lifetime teaching certificate from Pennsylvania. Today, Susan joins the ranks of other retirees after proudly serving Monroe County for the past 30 years. We appreciate her accomplishments and the dedication that she exhibited year in and year out. We wish you the best of luck and congratulate you on this special occasion.
