Dear Sheriff Roth:
We are in the process of planning our summer recreation program for 2006 and would like to
request your financial support. This is a one time request as we are working with other agencies
to restructure the program in the future.
Our plans include the USd of six school sites to provide various recreational activities during the
school day to parallel with our regular academic summer school. In the past we have served
close to 100 children at our Poinciana Elementary School site. Special activities that will be
offered include baseball, softball, soccer, recreation rotation including arts and crafts, indoor and
outdoor games and learning fun, field trips that include free movies at the Cinema. We will
provide everything needed to run a successful progrwn which includes transportation, instructors
and materials.

Sheriff Rick Roth
Monroe County Sheriff's Office

Dear Sheriff Roth:
The Monroe County Summer Recreation Program is more than a recreational activities program.
Our parents have counted on this program for many years to provide a safe and nurturing
environment in our schools for the children to spend their summers. Last year we had 1,600
children participate in our program at five different sites in the three areas of the county.
Our communities through out the keys have come to realize that this program is not only
recreational but its also a way to keep children ages six to eighteen from getting into trouble
during the summer as such I would categorize it as a crime prevention program.
Many parents are not able to afford paying for daycare during the summer and the Summer
Recreati~nal Program has provided a place for children. to attend that. otherwise would be staying
home alone or in the care of elder siblings. We are really providing the better alternative' through
the implementation of this program.
Thanks again for the funding it has made the difference in the life of many children in our
community.
flId.
Sincerely,
MONROE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
