ITEM BACKGROUND: On April 19, 2006 BOCC approval was provided for Aqua Waste Repairs to remove the five damaged tanks from the MCDC. Since that time, Aqua Waste has failed to show a good faith effort in the tanks removal. Brandes Design -Build, Inc. has expressed interest in these tanks. They appear to have the ways, means and desire to remove the tanks by the end of September. The subject tanks are associated with the decommissioned wastewater treatment plant located at the Detention Facility on Stock Island. During Hurricane Wilma, the tanks were knocked loose and pose a danger to the surrounding property. Since that time, Aqua Waste Repairs has failed to show any substantiated progress or good faith effort in the tanks' removal, Brandes Design -Build, Inc. has expressed interest in these tanks. After reviewing the attached documentation that they have provided, they appear to have the ways, means and desire to remove the tanks by the end of September. Therefore, BOCC approval is requested to rescind their earlier approval for Aqua Waste Repairs to remove these tanks and provide approval for Brandes Design -Build, Inc. to remove the subject tanks at no cost to the County.
